HEAL+

The Coimbatore smart city project proposal looks to implement the 15 SDGs (sustainable development goals) set out by the World Bank. These goals were dovetailed into the design using a four-pronged approach-

Universal access to best-in-class civic services and seamless mobility HEALTH (H); Sustainable environment ENVIRONMENT(E); Transparent ICT-led governance/citizen engagement AGENCY(A) and Vibrant economy LIVELIHOOD (L) and a + to encapsulate the other aspects of a holistic living to create sustainable cities. 

The design proposal seeks to implement these goals through comprehensive mechanisms such as cleaning up the water using the dewat systems, converting the garbage dump area into green spaces, creating play areas in the existing informal housing, solar parks, etc.  A market was developed with small-scale production units and incubator spaces that help educate the local community. The space overlooks the local plaza that connects the residential neighborhoods, the market, and the mound through the NMT network to a central community chowk  Communal laundry areas make use of the proximity to the river in creating a local economic cycle. Communal Laundry units celebrate quotidian activities with a social space for interactions for women. This unit is designed as a decentralized self-sustaining unit - that harvests rainwater and purifies gray water before discharge into the constructed wetlands. Surgical interventions help facilitate in-situ upgradation.
